Custom web design.
19 years experience
Through my career, I have designed hundreds of different web sites for small businesses, groups, charities, solo ventures, and schools. My work is intended to bring out the best in what you are offering online. I will work with you to develop just the right style for your new web site. The color schemes, graphics and layout of your site will all be discussed before work is started. The style of your web site will reflect your personal/company philosophy and show that you are a serious competitor in your field. It will also complement your existing company identity (logo and company colors) if established. Pages will have the perfect balance of strong content and visuals.
I’ve been called a WordPress guru. I have a ton of experience with Joomla, the JomSocial social network, and Magento e-commerce software and routinely integrate them in web development projects. I prefer to use CMS software because it makes it easy and manageable for clients to administer, blog, and modify content on their own after the design is complete. All my designs are responsive and relay an optimal web experience across all devices and browsers.
Custom themes & templates
I have developer licenses for Divi, GeneratePress, and Avada frameworks and 90% of my clients are choosing one of these as a starting point and base framework. The bonus of using one of these is it’s of no cost to you for the life of your website. There are many examples of sites to pick from initially and I’ve found these three to be the most reliable while providing customization flexibility for you. If you want to do it with your site, I’m confident we can make it happen well and looking good with one of these three.
Should you not want to use one of the frameworks above to customize, I am an authorized affiliate on the Envato market and able to pass on savings to my clients. How we communicate
I use InVision software to automatically turn client feedback into actionable to-do lists that I tick off as I work through your web design project. The client marks the screen as completed when finished and everyone is up to date on progress in one place. Check out the video for an example of the web development process.
Sarah Haase at Shanti Bodywork has been a client (and a friend) for many years. Her first web site by me was on the Joomla CMS system and as her business grew, her web needs grew. After two redesigns, we decided to move to the more secure and flexible WordPress system. Her most recent design features her rug as part of the design and has colors and a vibe to match her studio in Beverly, MA. Check out her site at shantibodywork.com.
The Newtowne School in Cambridge, MA needed a WordPress site that had a separate blog for each classroom. The result was a network of 8 WordPress installations interconnected in one hub. This hub included a public portion for all to see, and a private portion for only parents or family members to see. The classrooms could easily blog and each classroom had a distinct, yet maintained a similar look-and-feel throughout the site. Integrated in the site was a calendar feature of events and special dates that the Director updated as needed.
The Cengage Office & Windows Blog has been live since 2015. Cengage Learning uses this blog to pair with their Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Windows 10 titles. Each book that is published is shipped with this blog for reference and the successful blog averages thousands of hits a month. Cengage Learning wanted a simple blog that matches the color and style used by Microsoft for their popular computing programs and applications. In addition to the design, I also provide all the site maintenance, updates and hosting for the successful blog.
The Corner Butcher Shop of Beverly, MA project is the result of a complete WordPress redesign. It is a responsive, mobile-first, modular design on a sleek content management system. Melinda wanted a vintage feel to the site, so I incorporated an old-time feel to the design, as well as bringing in the prominent use of the chalk board and “look and feel” to the overall vibe of the site. The goal was to recreate the vibrant experience in the shop, so upon visiting the site there is a hero panorama of the store. A quick scroll and you have all the necessary contact info, click-able phone and directions, as well as details about the store and blog.
The Reggio Emilia March 2018 landing page was recently completed for International Study Tours. This is a new site and logo design on the WordPress system. There are mulitple videos embedded in the design and optimized for mobile use.
The Wonder of Learning Boston exhibit's WordPress web design is in full swing. Here's a sneak peak at the landing page. Be sure to give them a follow too, especially if you're a 0-5 year early childhood educator in New England. This exciting exhibit will be at UMass Boston June - Nov 2018.
